David Martinez III's Biography
David began a life of service at MHS where he served as Student Body President and Editor in Chief of the Tiger Tribune. He was also involved in Key Club, National Honor Society, and Tiger Link Crew. David is a first-generation college student as one of six children in his family.
David continued his involvement at The University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Art in Education, Political Science, and Journalism. He served as a student member on the AZ Board of Regents and interned for Congressman Raul M. Grijalva. David was involved with other boards and associations while earning honor grades.
Upon graduation, David served with the Arizona Students Organization as Government Affairs Director and Campus organizer for three years. He worked at St. Mary's Food Bank Alliance in various roles, ending as Community Outreach & Agency Development Manager, and developed and implemented strategic and data driven advocacy plans securing food and funds for food banks. He then spend a year at the Center for the Future of Arizona as Project Manager in Civic Health Initiatives.
Presently, David works for Vitalyst Health Foundation as Director of Community Engagement in Phoenix, Arizona. He connects, supports, and informs efforts to improve the health of individuals and communities through grantmaking, capacity building, and strengthening civic health.
Along with his different career positions, David served in the community as Chair and Corporate Secretary as St. Mary's Roman Catholic Basilica, Co-Chair and Member of Human Rights Campaign, Advisor Council Member for Center for LGBTQ Philanthropy at Arizona Community Foundation, and Monarch Council Member at Desert Botanical Garden.
David received honors including: 2013 Valle del Sol 30 Hispanic Leaders Under 30, 2011 Splashlife 30 Under 30 Civic Leaders, and as a Flinn-Brown Fellow with the Arizona Center for Civic Leadership. David is a man of service to Arizona's communities, and he began his civic service in the halls of MHS.
