David Dobbins's Biography
Hello Fellow Tiger Alumni. I'm Dave Dobbins, son of Wally Dobbins the MHS Hall of Famer, Track, Football, and Basketball Coaching Staff back at MHS during the 70s and 80s. I attended MHS (now the MS by the Freeway) from 1971-1973 for my Junior and Senior years of high school. My FR and SO years were spent at CDO. I became involved with Student Council during my tenure, and was also sports program manager for Dad Coach Wally as a Voluntold position. My favorite memories included going to the Tiger Den for a Burrito for lunch, unless I could find Farley Lewis at lunch time and tag along with him to his home just up the street for a fried bologna sandwich, which were, IMHO, the best in the world. My favorite classes were Auto Mechanics and Drafting, more in tune with stuff can could work on with my own hands. After HS I attended NAU Flagstaff for three years, and in the meantime joined AZDPS as a Dispatcher. During what would have been my fourth or Senior year I moved back to Tucson, attended some courses at Pima CC, and continued working with AZDPS. In the Fall of 1977 I took a leap and joined the U.S. Navy, which was a move I'm proud of yet today. I excelled as an Enlisted sailor and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer (Intelligence Specialist) before commissioning as a Chief Warrant Officer (Intelligence Technician). I concluded my Navy career after 20 years having moved all over the world, with living quarters in Mayport FL, Denver CO, Honolulu HI, Norfolk VA, Gaeta Italy, San Angelo TX, and back to Honolulu HI where I retired in 1996. Our family moved to sw Washington state where I got a teaching job through the DoD Troops to Teachers program and worked at schools for the next 17+ years with a two year break when I returned to AZ to help care for Mom. I fully retired in 2020, just as COVID was getting bad, and I was turning 65. Now I live in Sahuarita, and summer in Missoula MT with my artist-wife Becky. I enjoy reading, flying R/C model airplanes and boats, talking on ham radio, tinkering with electronics, and being the security detail for Becky when she goes painting. I also manage the MHS Class of 1973 Facebook Group, schedule our bi-monthly luncheon get-togethers at Golden Corral off Thorneydale (nearby class years are ALL invited), and was instrumental in coordinating our Class of 1973 40th and 50th Reunions.
